Ginal bottom slats and corner rollers, working front latches, and all original wood and hardware! Trunks this size are usually made with two or maybe three hinges on them, but this one has four. This is a fine example of the Excelsior patent trunk and based on the hardware and style this one was made in the mid to late 1880's. These unique trunks are made with solid oak slats attached to a thick pine body.
Very strong, heavy, well made, with a nicely rounded barrel top, which is rarely seen. Original leather handles, so carry it from the bottom!A truly beautiful, impressive, and rare collectible antique trunk. The wood grain patina is rich and warm. These trunks were much more expensive to make, were made in very limited quantities compared to other trunks, and therefore they are much harder to find, especially in such great condition! They were designed to be the strongest trunks ever made and beautiful enough to be used as a piece of furniture.
They are much rarer than the much more expensive LV trunks. A fabulous high quality trunk! The interior tray has a small amount of damage on the right side, due to the opening and closing of the metal stay (shown in the last photo). Dimensions are approximately 32" wide x 19" deep x 23 tall.ANTIQUE EXCELSIOR OAK SLAT TRUNK, SUPER NICE, RARE FIND" is in sale since Saturday, July 27, 2019.
