From an Estate sale of a long time antique book collector. Here is a very rare, historically significant book, printed just 2 years before the American Revolutionary War.
Title is: THE HISTORY OF THE RISE, INCREASE AND PROGRESS OF THE CHRISTIAN PEOPLE CALLED QUAKERS.. By William Sewel, printed in Burlington, New Jersey. This rare, unique book is 12 inches tall, by 8 inches wide, by 2-1/4 inches wide! Leather binding is in very good shape for its age. Found some papers describing this book, folded inside.
They are included with this book sale (see photos). Note that the original title page is missing, and several front pages (i, ii) but the owner found a facsimile page of the original page and that is included also.
Author William Sewel was a Dutch historian, and it took him 25 years to write this book. It was the largest book printed by colonial New Jersey press at that time. Full leather binding (original), 812 pages. Original label on the spine. Very unique to find this book in this condition.
A great collectible of a colonial American publication. Weighs 4 lbs, 10 oz. Here is a chance to get this historic title for an excellent price. Please see photos, ask questions if you have them.
