Antique HAIRINE bottle NICE & PURPLE paneled AND rare AND makes the Hair Grow

Pristine PURPLE AMETHYST colored rectangular-shaped antique HAIRINE HAIR TONIC bottle. This bottle is both EMBOSSED and has much of the original paper LABEL on the backside.

CUREs DANDRUFF and stops FALLING HAIR... A Boon to Ladies and Children... Condition : Bottle is in SPARKLING CLEAN condition. It may have just a trace of wear, nick, or scrape, but there isn't anything specifically wrong with it. NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc.

Just when you think you've seen them all, here is a new one that shows up. Hair preparations were a very competitive field back in the day and many bottled their product in fancy shaped and colored bottles which makes for a vast array of collectible bottles today. This one would certainly complement a line up of nicely colored HAIR TONIC bottles. Note it is paneled in the front, all of the embossing is within a sunken panel, giving it that old patent medicine type look.

And it is a patent or quack medicine as it actually states on the label that it " MAKE THE HAIR GROW " and " CURES DANDRUFF and FALLING HAIR ". Even the embossing makes quite the claim when it says it is the " BEST HAIR TONIC in the WORLD "! Then there is the deep purple color of the glass...

The beautiful purple amethyst color of this glass is the result of the presence of manganese in the glass, a mineral that was pulverized and added to vats of liquid glass that acted as a decolorizing agent to turn the glass crystal clear. Exposure to ultraviolet rays of the sun or other sources of UV rays, triggers a chemical reaction and the manganese oxidizes and turns a wonderful amethyst color. Many of our amethyst bottles have been purpled from years of exposure to natural sunlight, others have been purpled with the use of strong UV lights in a box, and still others have been purpled by running them through a sterilization (radiation) process, a safe and permanent process which does the same thing as exposure to natural sunlight, except much faster. Though some "purists" will suggest that this lavender color has been artificially produced or altered, the only thing that is artificial or altered is the time period it took to turn purple.

Whether a bottle has been purpled by the sun, by UV rays in a box, or by a sterilization process, they all turn the same purple color as it is the same chemical reaction taking place. With few exceptions, only clear glass from before 1914 will turn sun-colored-amethyst. Not only does this deep purple/amethyst color make this a great looking bottle, but it also authenticates it as being truly antique!
