To see my son's old books. A NICE GIFT TO THANK A NURSE. The Story of Florence Nightingale: The Heroine of the Crimea. Pictorial hardcover with gilt spine lettering.

7.25" by 5.25" w/ 144 pages. From her birth - to 1910.

I think this was published right before her death! Florence Nightingale was a trailblazing figure in nursing who greatly affected 19th- and 20th-century policies around proper medical care. She was known for her night rounds to aid the wounded, establishing her image as the'Lady with the Lamp. From a young age & from a wealthy family, Nightingale was active in philanthropy, ministering to the ill and poor people in the village neighboring her familys estate.

Nightingale eventually came to the conclusion that nursing was her calling; she believed the vocation to be her divine purpose. When Nightingale approached her parents and told them about her ambitions to become a nurse, they were not pleased and forbade her to pursue appropriate training.

During the Victorian Era, where English women had almost no property rights, a young lady of Nightingale's social stature was expected to marry a man of means to ensure her class standingnot take up a job that was viewed by the upper social classes as lowly menial labor. Florence Nightingale defied the expectations of the time and pursued what she saw as her God-given calling of nursing. At the time, there were no female nurses stationed at hospitals in the Crimea. After the Battle of Alma, England was in an uproar about the neglect of their ill and injured soldiers, who not only lacked sufficient medical attention due to hospitals being horribly understaffed but also languished in appallingly unsanitary conditions. Her writings sparked worldwide health care reform, and in 1860 she established St.

Thomas' Hospital and the Nightingale Training School for Nurses. A revered hero of her time, she died on August 13, 1910, in London. Photos carefully as they are part of the description. All of my books are VERY OLD and have 100+ years of wear to varying degrees. Boards - very secure, back cover clean. Spine ends - bit worn.

Inner hinges - very good back, front 1 cracked a bit [see last picture]. Pages - generally very clean, hardly any spots.

Writing - sticker remnants on ffep. Rips /folds - 2 very, very small rips that I saw - apx 7 dog-ear folds. Book is a bit cocked. A NICE ONE FOR YOU OR A GIFT!

Please Add me to your Favorites list. AND check back now and then to see what's new! Otherwise I can't send you a new invoice.

Don't panic, I will get to ASAP. T can take up to 14 days to get back East. All others please contact me.

This book is very old and. May have accumulated bad smells along the way [musty basement/ mildew/ smoke]. Dryer sheets in them for a few months makes a world of difference! My nose doesn't work like it use to. So the old book smell doesn't bother me.

As far as I can tell -this book does not smell bad. The item "RARE FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE VICTORIAN NURSE ANTIQUE BOOK CRIMEAN WAR NICE GIFT" is in sale since Monday, May 11, 2020.
