RARE! Matching Pair of TRAMP ART BOXES by the same maker NICE CONDITION 1920's
Here is a real rarity: two identical tramp art boxes by the same craftsman. Over the years I have seen probably three others of these. Some are finished in a light orange-y brown, some darker. They have both drop-in lids and are also hinged. The maker must have found the design of these boxes perfect, easy, or both, to keep repeating it. I would date them to the 1920's-1940's. They have an Art Deco look but also 40's streamlining. The layers have rounded beveled edges, giving the whole a smooth organic look. The extra-long notching was done with remarkable precision. The pink satin lining is intact. The handles almost have the appearance of a highly abstracted animal, again, smooth and organic. They stand on stubby square feet with elaborate bracing on the underside. In this case, the light-colored box has the drop-in lid and the dark one is hinged. They will display beautifully somewhere symmetry is needed. They are about 11" wide and 7" tall. You can see from the pictures they are in excellent condition.
